28. Inseparable…
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?… No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loves us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present or the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us form the love of God that is in Christ Jesus, our Lord.
Romans 8:35-39
Have you ever been lost? Separated from the people you were with? You turned down the wrong road and suddenly found yourself in unfamiliar surroundings. How did it feel? I remember a time when I didn’t know the streets of Sydney. I was alone and couldn’t find Wynyard station. I began to panic, I felt isolated and very alone and a little bit afraid.
Now imagine that you are separated from God’s love. What would that be like? I think maybe words like despair, darkness, absolute panic and fear might begin to describe such a separation. Maybe hell could sum up the space we would find ourselves in. But at the end of the day, I don’t think we have words to describe the desolation of such a place.
My Sydney lost story has a happy ending – a gentleman in a business suit asked me if I was okay and then walked me to the station. To this day, I believe he was sent to guide me. Isn’t it wonderful to know that God does provide for us in this way. Even more wonderful is the sure knowledge that we never have to experience separation from his love. There is nothing, that’s right, absolutely nothing, that can keep us apart from God’s amazing love.
God can’t, by his very nature, stop loving us. No matter what we do, where we are, what happens to us, God still loves us. His heart must break over the choices we make or the circumstances we get ourselves into, but his love never fails.
Prayer: All praise and honour and glory to you. Your love never, ever, ever fails us. It is the one absolute constant in our lives. No matter what is thrown at us, what predicaments we get ourselves into they cannot separate us from your love. Your love that sent your Son as a baby to live amongst us, Emmanuel, and to die for us, Saviour. Thank you from the depths of my heart and soul.
Amen
Action: Today walk every moment conscious of that love from which nothing can separate us and give all the praise, honour and glory to the One who loves you.
