7. BIG Love…
Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep…. How priceless is your unfailing love, O God.
Psalm 36:5-7
For a number of years, I was Children’s Pastor in my church and loved to sing this song with the children:
My God is so big, so strong and so mighty, there’s nothing my God cannot do.
The mountains are his, the valleys are his, the stars are his handiwork too.
My God is so big so strong and so mighty, there’s nothing my God cannot do.
Today let’s take time out to ponder on the “size” of God. How big is your God, how big is his love for you?
- Is God’s love big enough to fill the hole left when everyone seems to have deserted you and you are alone?
- Is God’s love big enough to release the spirit of despair?
- Is God’s love big enough to forgive and forget your many sins against him?
The good news is that God’s love is greater, broader, fuller, deeper, etc. etc. etc. than we can ever understand:
His love is higher than the highest of mountains
His love goes deeper than the deepest of seas
His love, it stretches to the farthest horizon
And his love, it reaches to me
His love is stronger than the angels and demons
His love, it keeps me in my life’s darkest hour
His love secures me on the pathway to heaven
And his love is my strength and power
His love is sweeter than the sweetest of honey
His love is better than the choicest of wine
His love, it satisfies the deepest of hunger
And his love, in Jesus it’s mine

Have a read of 1 John 3-4 for a glimpse of the immensity of God’s love – it is a love that is absolutely unconditional. A love that will go to any lengths for us.
God’s love is the source of our love. God is love – his love is inseparable from his very essence and being. Charles Wesley puts it like this:
Amazing love how can it be, that thou my God shouldst die for me
(google the hymn for the rest of the wonderful words)
Prayer: Lord, how absolutely amazing that you love me beyond the boundaries of this world. You love me, Lord, yes, even me, warts and all. Thankyou seems such a small word to express what I am feeling right this moment as my heart swells with your love flowing through me into my day.

Action: Today ponder on that great love God has for you – yes you – and how valuable, precious, and amazing that makes you.
